2 months into wedding planning!

Sunday, April 11th, 2010 random

I have this strange guilt when it comes to talking about the wedding. I’m more than ok with talking about it with my friends who are involved – but I am cognizant of becoming a crazy-obsessed bride. Nobody likes those, especially me.

Yet, at the same time planning a wedding takes a lot of time and consideration. For people who are complete n00bs like myself, there’s a whole world of flowers, mysterious etiquette, and tiny ridiculous-yet-expensive details to take in.  Of course I’d want to share (what is to me) new-found knowledge will all that will listen.  It just turns out that a lot of these things are ‘common knowledge’ to most everyone so they don’t care. I don’t blame them.

I didn’t give a care about weddings until it was part of my reality.

Nonetheless, I have learned a whole lot about the wedding-industrial-complex, and have compiled a list of my general thoughts:

1) By and large, it’s pretty stupid.

2) Pale blues and calligraphy/script font apparently instantly = weddings. So many sites and blogs and resources I’ve seen use a combination of these. I have now developed a gag-reflex when I see scripted fonts.

3) I am not quite the ‘typical’ bride, nor are Baron and I the typical betrothed couple.

4) Rich people get married and have really fun weddings in their mansions backyards or gorgeous valleys in California and make it seem so casual.

5) Every single wedding photo-album must include one ‘cute’ and ‘whimiscal’ shot of just the couples feet. OMGZ LOL how ironic! It’s like a portrait but flipped!  I hate it. Maybe due to the over-saturation of subscribing to about half dozen wedding blogs I see more than I normally would. They make me angry.

6) Don’t know why anyone would want to be in a wedding party. I’m SO glad my friends are excited about it, but I feel bad for asking them to do all these things. Determining what they wear? That’s so weird!

7) I don’t understand western traditions and etiquette.

All-in-all, a lot of the excitement has faded as I try to muddle through all the tasks and all the money that needs to save. I wonder how I’ll be feeling in another 2 months :/
