Ninjatown for Nintendo DS

Back in the day I used to enjoy a good real time strategy game (warcraft, populous etc.) It’s been a while since I’ve played one, with the last one I can remember being Pikmin 2 for Nintendo Game Cube.

I found out about Ninjatown through www.ign.com’s editors choice awards, and it seemed like a good title to try on my DS, as I had just finished De Blob and found myself bored.

Ninjatown is based on characters created by Shawnimals – ridiculously huggably cute ninja’s and devils to be precise. (According to my bf I only play games that are cute. I’ll address that later). In the game you play on the side of the wee ninja’s, who are trying to defend their precious Ninjatown from the evil of Mr. Demon and his devil minions of many breeds. It’s your basic defence game – you get different types of ninja’s with different strengths, powers, weaknesses, attacks, speeds etc to pit against varying enemies.

This game has pretty much everything I need in a game:
Fun
Challenging
Addictive (So many times I’ve tried to put it down but I just pick it back up again)
Sense of humour and a pretty good story, and the previously mentioned: cuteness.

I also like the fact that if you fail too many times on one level it asks you if you’d like to try it on easy mode. You can say no and keep at it, though!

I am done this game, and not sure what to play next!

I’ve been away, mostly in Ninjatown…

Yup. That’s me. And yup, that’s where I’ve been… Ninjatown is an awesome RTS game for the DS. Get it. I’ll tell you more about it in the new year.

De Blob!

De Blob!

De Blob!

This past weekend I picked up the game “De Blob”, for Nintendo Wii. My brother had shown me the original version of the game, which was made by students as a kiosk game. It had one level, and no rewards for doing anything.  All you did was tumble around a monochrome town painting buildings with your blobular – paint ingesting body.

Of course the Wii title that I am playing has evolved far beyond that.  This game is FUN. The plot goes like this: fun colourful town is overtaken by horrible black and white aliens who have robbed the town of all it’s colour, enslaved it’s citizens, and turned it into a grey landscape. There is hope, in the form of the underground colour movement – they call on you (the Blob) to help them out. Each level you play you have specific goals, and also a lot of side challenges.  You can roll around, jump on paint bots to absorb their colours, and paint buildings, citizens, trees, benches and other scenery by merely touching them. The three paint colours that are found in the world are red, yellow, & blue and you can mix them to create secondary colours (purple, orange, green and brown). You have a time limit for the level, but can extend it by unlocking clocks and other goodies.

One beef I do have with the game is that it only auto saves for you after you’ve completed a level. Since I am choosing to do every single little side mission per level, it’s taking me more than a few hours to do a level, and I can’t dedicate that much continuous time to it. I wish it could auto save after each challenge.

Another little thing that annoys me, and this is just minor is the fact that you have to use the remote to jump. It’s fun at first – flicking the thig to make Blob jump… but after a while it gets annoying and I wish i could just use a button

Other than that, it’s a pretty fun game, and a great first entry from the developers. If you have a wii I suggest you pick this up. It’s not too hard or ground breaking but it’s got style and is a lot of fun.’

I have yet to fully finish Lego Batman (not sure why, since I do enjoy it)… but I’m thinking of picking up the Harvey Birdman game after that… and maybe trying out Viva Pinata on the DS? I’m a bit wary as most DS ports I’ve played generally suck.

I burned the rope and saved you all.

Megashaun sent around this wonderful flash game and I can’t stop playing it. So I share it with you.  It’s pretty awesome, so I think you should click on this picture bellow and play it.

You have to Burn the Rope

You have to Burn the Rope

My first shift at the Cupcake place went well.  Got the basics down and next weekend will be the hard part, but I’m looking forward to it. I also had a lovely evening at Plenty Space’s place. We watched a movie called “The Room“. There are many words I could use to describe this film, but It’s too traumatic to think about it for more than 15 seconds at a time, so I won’t. You can, however, click the link and learn about it yourself.
