website
New website, cupcakes and early Saturday morning.
I (finally) converted my entire site over to wordpress! Bye-bye PHP. I also got rid of my “work” page, since that was mostly put up when I was looking for a job. I started from the ground up, with a fresh WordPress install, finding a nice simple theme that I could adapt to my needs and then eventually moving the blog itself to the root directory. No more “/blog” business. Now that it’s front and center, I really need to update it
Why am I awake at 8:00 on Saturday morning? Good question. I’d normally never see this side of a weekend, but I’ve taken on a part time job at the Cupcake shop my friend works at! I’m doing my first shift today – just a few hours training getting familiarized with processes and what not. I’m a bit nervous but mostly excited to use a different part of my brain, to be working in a real bakery, and to be working with my friend!
(I took cake decorating class with this friend, our passion for baking goes deep and so this should be extra fun).
This reminds me, I have to re-do the Anitabot icon with a chef’s hat. It’s actually somewhat appropriate now
New(ish) year!
I redesigned the site for the new year. I would like to think that my design skills are improving. I have been trying to learn more about colour theory, and I hope it shows!
I know it’s been a long time since I updated. I got a job back in September which has made me busy. In addition to a full time job, I took and completed my first cake decorating course! (Check the play section for photos of the final product!) By the time that was over, the Christmas holidays rolled around and we all know how much time that leaves!
The other day I went skating for the first time since elementary school. I was scared of everything as a child and never properly learned how to skate, so my adventures on saturday were interesting. Within the 1.5 hours of skating with friends I made some decent progress! Now, I cannot wait to go again. I am lucky to live near an outdoor skating rink!
It’s so fun to be physical in the winter! Now, if I can only get out to build a snowman, and make snow angels then I think I will have completed all my necessary winter activities
Picasa Web Albums Vs. Flickr
VS.
I’ve had a digital camera since November of 2004, and since then have been searching for adequate ways to host my pictures online. I used to host them on my site, or another free service called fotki, but that was too limited. It wasn’t until last year that I tried Flickr. I tried Flickr when I was in India, but the slow connection speed made me give up.
When I got back I installed the picasa software on my PC, and I loved it. Since you could easily upload to picasa web right from the program, it made sense to use that. I did a quickie comparison and chose google. I even looked up other websites (blogs) that had comparisons between the two, and it always just seemed to be a slight user preference… not real advantage or disadvantage to one or the other.
Now I have a mac, and use (and love) iPhoto, with my Picasa Web Album uploader plugin.
I was happy to use it, but didn’t realize that you could embed a Flash Slideshow into a website. With Flickr, I used a 3rd party site to achieve that, but with Picasa, it’s built right in. The only thing is I like the Flickr slideshow better as you can control the speed, and also see all the thumbnails. I don’t know what to choose!
I’ll have to do more extensive testing. For now, you can see examples of both on the Bukit & Chompy Photo Page
Tell me what you think!
I’m still webscavating!
I’ve decided to change the look… again :guilty:
Change is good, right? I am having a bit of trouble making the stylesheet for the wordpress blog… There are a few nuances that I can’t seem to fix… YET.
I really need to work on that gallery section too. Not only finding a way to organize it so it looks appealing, but actually filling it with content. There is so much more work to be done.

In other news, today I bought some cookie cutters (a package of 6) and one of the shapes was a bunny! Excellent!
That’s it for now… Hopefully the next update will feature success in the web building arena, and some bunny-shaped cookies to show off.
