I wanna go to New York City cuz they tell me it’s the place to be

New York City has always been in my top places to visit. I’ve technically been there before; when I was about 1-2 years old my family made the trip. I of course remember nothing of this and so it’s like I’ve never been. The fact that I live in Toronto makes it even sillier that I’ve never been. I’ve been to Singapore. I’ve been to Vancouver. I’ve been to Chicago and Philadelphia… but somehow I never made the trip to NYC!

But finally I am going! This November I will be turning the big 3-0 and will be going to NYC that weekend. I’m so excited to fly Porter Airlines (I’m close to the island airport), and to be staying in mid-town Manhattan. I’ve accumulated a list of ‘must-see’ things from talking to friends and researching on the internet. I’m pretty good to go, but I obviously need one more thing to help me get there:

The NYC Playlist. This is crucial, a city as wonderful and large and old as NYC has probably a million songs written about it. I’m obviously going to start with Frank Sinatra’s “New York New York”, but I need to fill at least a 2.5 hour plane ride.

There was one song that I’ve had in my head for about the last 10 years whenever NYC was mentioned – but all I knew was the chorus, and when I tried googling that, I could never find it. but I finally did. The Song is New York City by the Demics, a 70′s Canadian Punk Band

This song is so wonderful! Any other suggestions for songs on the play list are welcome. I’m so excited I may just yell “No Sleep ’til Brooklyn” for the entire plane ride. That works too.

Bowie’s Reality. New York references, and an amazing album all ’round. I’d consider it a must-have on a playlist for such an awesome trip!

Please yell “No Sleep ’till Brooklyn” the entire plane ride.
I had no idea Porter flew to NYC, that is totally convenient! The only song that comes to mind at the moment is 53td&3rd by the Ramones…any Ramones would be good I guess :)
And I was totally trying to come up with suggestions for things to do but honestly, just walking around is awesome! If you can though, the MOMA is really pretty amazing…loads of well known and just plain beautiful art :)
