@Mentat - I am not against women sexifying themselves, or having sexy costumes - I am wondering WHY that is the PREDOMINANT choice for costumes. And all careers have to be turned into sexy ones. Like Firefighters, and Nurses. Why can't we just be regular ones (we can, but the highest percentage of costumes are sexified versions).

Sure, women have come along way but we're still taken more seriously when we're sexy parodies of real people (according to Halloween costumes).

I have nothing against women who want to wear these costumes, but it lives little choice for those of us who want that TYPE of costume (lets say an astronaut) but DON'T want the sexy version. we want the regular one :(

Here's a larger question: why do women unnecessarily sexify themselves? A woman working in a typical office, lets' say--why does she wear lipstick, perfume, high heels? You cannot deny that these items are for the purpose of sexification. You may argue that there is societal pressure; I'll grant this but it doesn't explain it away entirely. Apparently women want to appear sexy... but they don't want others to want them to appear sexy. Or something like that.

When I was little I had a bit of an "Indian princess" get up, but not for Hallowe'en. There's a "trading post" (aka over-priced northern Ontario souvenirs) on the way up to my camp and I was super excited to get a feathered headdress and leather ankle bells to run around in. I guess I just really liked the traditions (or perceived traditions) of the culture. But I was 8!
I haven't seen first hand a lot of girls dressed like that here for Hallowe'en...but in the states it seems way more popular, but then they're a lot more clueless about tact when it comes to aboriginals, so....
